Fat Quarter Project: Short Wallet for Boys

I made a crossbody bag for my 4-year-old nephew couple weeks ago and he requested to have a wallet to go along with his bag so he can “go shopping” like his mommy.  As I’m having so much fun with my new Singer 7258 Stylist, I made him a short wallet with 6 card slots and a coin pocket at the back.  It was also a great opportunity for me to revisit my design of the short wallets, as I didn’t really like the coin pocket of the last one I made.  The coin pocket had no room to expand so it made it quite difficult to take coins out when the wallet is stuffed with cards.

My nephew picked a piece of fabric with cars and it’s perfect for boys!  I have added a layer of iron-on vinyl to make it waterproof (you may check out this tutorial of making your own waterproof fabric).

I am impressed with this improved design of the coin pocket which I added an expandable gusset.  It makes taking coins in and out of the pocket so much easier even if the wallet is stuffed with cards and cash.
